Brunhilde Engelhardt joined the staff of St. Peter's in September 2006. She
previously served as Director of Music and Organist at the Eliot Church
of Newton, where she developed a diverse music program.
Following her graduation from the Academy for Protestant Sacred Music in Bayreuth,
Germany, she served as music director and organist at various churches
in Germany, where she directed a 50-voice adult choir and several children's
choirs, provided music for worship services and a concert series, and
conducted orchestral and brass ensembles. In 1994, she came to
the U.S. to continue her studies at Mills College in California, where
she served as an instructor and received her Master of Fine Arts Degree
in Performance and Literature.
After serving at several churches in the Bay Area and in Boston, Brunhilde
returned to Germany in 2000 for intensive study at the Hochschule für
Musik in Detmold in organ performance, organ improvisation, piano, voice,
and choral and orchestral conducting. In 2003, she completed her
A-Exam in Sacred Music, which qualified her for a sacred music position
with the highest artistic standards.
As a concert artist, Brunhilde performs regularly in Germany and the U.S.
and has appeared at Old West Church and King’s Chapel in Boston
as well as at the Berliner Dom and St. Mary’s Church in Berlin,
St. George’s Church in Eisenach (the baptismal church of J. S.
Bach), and St. Jacob’s Church in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. In
addition to her formal musical education, Brunhilde has broad musical
tastes and looks forward to a continuation of the wonderful music tradition
at St. Peter's.
