Transition in the 2nd Half of Life” Workshop
With Beverly Ryle
"Age is opportunity no less than youth, though in another dress." H.W. Longfellow
Saturday morning, May 17, 2008, 9:00 AM -11:30 AM
Presented by St. Peter’s Church, Weston
The second half of life today brings the expectation that many of us will live independently into our 90s with active minds and bodies. Transitions are thrust upon us throughout the years by major life changes like losing a loved one or coping with major illness. In the second half of life these changes, often sudden, are joined by the unmistakable changes in body and mind that come with advancing years.
While our spirits remain young, a 65th birthday or the birth of a grandchild or great-grandchild reminds us that time is passing and we are becoming the leading generation. Turning age 75 may create a desire to finally get it right, to discover the unique work we were put on earth to do with the years or decades remaining. Understanding how to be in transition helps us to honor and adjust to these events in our lives.
To address this need, St. Peter’s Church in Weston is offering the workshop, “Transition in the 2nd Half of Life” on Saturday morning, May 17, with transitions coach Beverly Ryle as presenter. This workshop will give participants an opportunity to share what they are experiencing, and to begin the process of planning for the coming years rather than waking up to find they are gone.
Participants in "Transition in the 2nd Half of Life" workshop will gain
• a deeper awareness of the transitions in their own lives,
• be inspired by the stories of role models and guides,
• explore practical ways to move forward with more comfort and joy, and
• gain new perspectives on the unique value of the aging journey.
Transitions coach Beverly Ryle is trained and certified by William Bridges who developed the transition model in the 1990s to address work place issues resulting from corporate mergers and layoffs. Following the death of his wife, Bridges applied his theories to his personal situation in a beautiful book called The Way of Transition.
As career counselor, business consultant, and transitions coach, Ryle has helped people achieve their full potential through education and empowerment for 25 years. (Learn more at www.successsonyourownterms.com.) She served for many years as a nursing home ombudsman.
